If you’re in business or would like to have a commercial ice cream maker at home, then I will be reviewing 3 ice cream makers for commercial use that can also be used at home if you have the space and don’t mind paying a commercial price.
Most people who make ice cream use the standard home ice cream maker like the Cuisinart ICE-21, but this kind of ice cream maker isn’t really practical in a commercial setting, what is required is a compressor machine that freezes the ice cream in the machine without pre-freezing the bowl.
We’ve tried to cover 3 different compressor machines in different price ranges that could be used as a commercial hard ice cream maker, it obviously depends on how much ice cream you would need to make in the day to satisfy your business demand to which machine would be suitable.

Cuisinart ICE-100 Compressor Ice Cream and Gelato Maker
The Cuisinart ICE-100 Ice Cream and Gelato Maker
is a fully automatic ice cream maker with a commercial quality compressor. This machine comprises of the main compressor base unit with a 60 minute timer, a 1.5 quart removable ice cream bucket, and 2 separate plastic paddles, 1 for ice the cream and 1 for the gelato .
There is a locking, clear plastic lid with a lift up window for you to be able to add ingredients.
The ice cream and gelato take about 50 minutes to make, pour in the ice cream batter, add the correct paddle, set the timer and let it do it’s thing. If you forget about it, it will keep cool for about 10 minutes after the timer has finished. This makes ice cream with a soft serve consistency, to be removed from the bucket and placed in the freezer for storage.

This machine can definitely be used at home, but could be used in a commercial setting if it can make sufficient for the needs of the business. It is easy to clean up but can be a little noisy.

Lello Musso Pola 5030 Dessert Maker

is large for the home but can definitely be used in a commercial capacity. The bowl is a 2 quart size and can make up to 6 quarts in an hour. The machine comprises of the stainless steel compressor unit with built in bowl, a timer, a switch for the paddle and a switch for the compressor. There is a plastic locking lid for the top with a fully stainless steel paddle and locking nut.
The ice cream bowl isn’t removable, so the ice cream must be removed as quickly as possible when ready as the compressor keeps the bowl cold so it freezes the ice cream to it. Depending on the quantity of ice cream you make it can take anything from 15 to 25 minutes, the clean up isn’t factored into this and in a commercial capacity, this will probably affect how much you can make an hour.
The speed of this machine is definitely quicker than the Cuisinart ICE-100, but that is reflected in the price.

Nemox Pro 5K Crea Fully Automatic Commercial Tabletop Gelato/Ice Cream Maker with Conservation, 18.9″ Length
This Nemox Pro 5K Crea gelato/ice cream maker is the most expensive that I will be looking at. This is definitely aimed at creating a lot of ice cream, it can produce up to 7.4 quarts in an hour which consists of 1.25 kg every 12-15 minutes or 5 kg / 7 L / or 7.4 qt per hour!
This is a fully automatic, table top unit, with 4 programs and storage options. The 4 programs are Gelato Classico – SemiSoft Ice Cream – Granita – Shock freezing. It’s functional, fast and convenient, made to be used continuously, giving the ability to make lots of different flavours quickly.
The Nemox Pro 5K Crea has a fully stainless steel outer and paddle, with a clear, lift up plastic lid. The fully automatic functions allow you to set and go.
This isn’t a cheap option, but a very useful machine for a small business.

Conclusion
If you are opening a business selling ice cream then it would be an investment to buy the Nemox Pro 5K Crea but it would definitely cope with the requirements for a lot of ice cream. If you’re just looking for a commercial ice cream maker for a club or group that won’t need to be running continuously every day then the Lello Musso would probably do fine there and the Cusinart ICE-100 would be for lesser use as it is designed more for the home.
