What comes in the box with this Cuisinart Ice-45 machine?
You have the Ice-45 base with motor, the bowl with a hole in the bottom specific to this machine that holds the ice cream recipe, 3 mix it in toppings containers, the dispenser spout, the cover which goes on top and includes the paddle for churning your ice cream. There is also a plastic tray that goes under the dispenser spout that goes under the dispenser for any drips.
How easy is it to clean? Can the parts go in the dishwasher?
This soft serve ice cream maker doesn’t have many removable parts to it. The lids over the bowl and the mix it in containers, the mix it in containers themselves, the bowl, the dispenser handle and the chute from the mix it ins are easily removed and below the dispenser is a drip tray. It is suggested in the instructions not to clean these items in the dishwasher, just clean out in hot soapy water and when the bowl is dry it can be placed back in the freezer for the next time you want to make ice cream.
Is the bowl the same as the other Cuisinart Ice cream makers?
The freezer bowl in this ice cream maker is specially designed with a hole in the base of it so that the ice cream mix can be pushed through by the beater into the dispenser. Other Cuisinart bowls are all in one piece. You can buy spare Ice-45 bowls from Amazon.com if you want to make a second batch of ice cream.
How long does it take to make a batch of ice cream?
Depending on how much ice cream mixture you add to the bowl and the ingredients used to make the ice cream mixture it can take 20 minutes or more. It works better if the ice cream mixture is chilled beforehand or even kept in the freezer for a short time before making. You don’t want to let the mixture get too thick before using the dispenser or it won’t flow through.
Does this machine require you to buy a special ice cream mix?
You can use any type of soft serve ice cream mix that you can buy, like Pineapple Dole Whip Soft Serve Ice Cream Mix available on Amazon.com, if you prefer the taste. You have been given recipes at the end of the manual that you can make and use in your machine. There are recipes for sherbets, sorbets, frozen yogurts and ice creams which you can tailor to suit yourself. The choice is yours.
How many servings can you get out of one batch of ice cream?
This obviously depends on what your size of a serving is, but if you make it around half a cup you can get around 6-8 servings from one batch of ice cream made in the Cuisinart soft serve ice cream machine for home served either in a cone or a bowl. So if you are having a small child’s party or home gathering you can satisfy at least 6 people. If you need more than this you will need to have 2 bowls so you can make another batch straight after the first, if you don’t need as much as this then you can take the remaining ice cream and put it into and airtight container to store in the freezer for later.
Mix ins
You get a list of recommended mix ins in the Ice-45 manual including some of the following
Mini M&M
Confetti sprinkles
Chocolate sprinkles
Caramel sprinkles
Chocolate chips
Chopped nuts
You also get a gauge which is a mini funnel which you can use to test any item you want to add in to your ice cream, it has to be dry and not sticky so it can drop through the opening into the ice cream easily.
How long can you keep the ice cream in the machine?
Once you make the ice cream in the Cuisinart Ice-45 soft serve ice cream maker and start dispensing it’s best to dispense it all, if you keep churning it it will get too thick, if you turn it off it may stay ok for 30 minutes or so but will start melting. If you don’t want it all you would be better to place the remaining ice cream into an airtight freezer container
.
Can you use this to make frozen yogurt?
You can make frozen yoghurt, ice cream and sorbet in the Ice-45 and there are recipes in the manual if you don’t have your own recipe. A good place to find more options for frozen yoghurt recipes is on Pinterest or Youtube
