This is a compact ice cream machine which would fit easily onto your worktop, it has a white casing and a see though lid which has the motor attached. You can make 2.1 pints of ice cream in this machine. The bowl is incorporated into the machine so the only other part is the removable paddle which attaches into the lid to churn the ice cream into a smooth consistency.
The control panel on the front is simplicity itself with only 3 buttons to select. You have an on/off button, a hard button and a soft button. It takes up to 60 minutes to make your batch of ice cream depending on the consistency you want. Remove the ice cream and eat or you can store it in airtight containers in the freezer.
The clean up is easy too, clean the see through lid and the paddle in warm soapy water. The bowl is just cleaned out with a wet cloth and the outside of the machine is just wiped down with a damp cloth.
If you want to cut down on the additives in processed ice cream then make your own healthier version with fresh ingredients for your family and you can always have your favourite flavours on hand in the freezer.
Gourmia GSI170 Automatic Ice Cream Maker
The Gourmia GSI170 Automatic Ice Cream Maker is a great looking ice cream maker to have standing on the countertop. At first glance it doesn’t look like an ice cream machine. This is a frozen bowl type of ice cream maker that can make 1.5 quarts. This means you have a removable bowl which is double walled with a freezable liquid between. Once this has been frozen for about 24 hrs it will keep in the cold temperature long enough to freeze your ice cream mixture.
This machine comes with a list of delicious recipes for you to try. Once you have your mixture prepared it needs cooling it in the fridge before you make it. Place the ice cream paddle into the motor in the lid and place the frozen bowl in the base. Lock the lid into place and you’re ready to start. Set the time on the machine, the default time is 20 minutes and you can adjust it up a minute at a time by pressing the timer button up to a maximum of 40 minutes. If you’re not sure set it to the max and keep checking the mixture as it churns from 20 minutes onwards till it gets to the consistency you like and not that time.
Press the start button and the paddle will start turning. Lift the small pouring lid on the top and then pour your mixture through into the bowl. As your mixture firms up you can use this lid to add in other items like fruit or sweets. Once your ice cream is ready you can eat it immediately or decant into an airtight container to store in the freezer. It’s easy to clean the parts by removing the motor and the lid, bowl and paddle can be washed in warm soapy water.
Gourmia GSI200 Automatic Ice Cream Maker
The Gourmia GSI200 Automatic Ice Cream Maker is a bit more expensive than the other 2 machines because it is a full compressor type ice cream maker. This machine can make up to 1.6 quarts of ice cream at the touch of a button. This is a sleek looking machine and it’s still not too large to fit on the countertop.
The Gourmia GSI200 has a stainless steel base with the compressor motor inside and includes the housing for the removable bowl. The bowl, paddle, transparent lid and mixing motor are added to the machine to start making your ice cream. When you plug in the unit it will come up with 50 minutes automatically, this can be adjusted in 10 minute increments by pressing the timer button. Press the start button and the paddle will start turning and the freezer will start cooling. Pour the ice cream mixture into the bowl through the small aperture in the lid, this can also be used to add other ingredients once the ice cream mixture begins to firm up.
Once the timer has finished you can unplug and remove the ice cream from the machine and serve or you can leave it in the machine which will keep it cool for up to 1 hour. You can remove the ice cream from the bowl and store in a suitable container in the freezer until you need it. The parts on this machine are easily cleaned. The removable bowl, paddle and transparent lid can be washed up in warm, soapy water. The housing for the removable bowl can be wiped out with a damp cloth. If you want to make another batch straight away, just make sure that the bowl is dry before you start as it could freeze into the machine.
If you and your family love iced desserts they don’t have to be deprived. You can make healthier versions that you know they can eat without any additives or e numbers and still enjoy. We like the Gourmia GSI480 because you can make instant ice cream without a massive investment but any of the above machines will work no matter what your budget is.
