Hamilton Beach 68330N Overview
This Hamilton Beach 68330N ice cream maker is basic in design but it includes all that you need to make delicious ice cream at a budget friendly price. It consists of a plastic outer bucket in white which holds the ice and salt, it has a canister and lid in which you place your Hamilton Beach 4 quart ice cream maker recipes, whatever flavour you prefer, a dasher that fits into the canister and through the lid into the motor which locks onto the main bucket.
The process is very simple, you will receive with your machine a Hamilton Beach 68330n manual but once you know how to assemble your ice cream maker it’s just a matter of adding your ice cream mixture and dasher to the canister, place on the lid, add ice and rock salt in layers around the canister in the bucket to the top of the canister, install the motor over the dasher and lock onto the top of the bucket, plug it in and it will automatically churn your ice cream.
According to the Hamilton Beach ice cream maker instructions it can take anywhere between 20 to 40 minutes to produce your ice cream, although it helps to freeze the canister for a short time before using and you will also need to keep topping up the ice and salt as it melts.
You can make up to 4 quarts of ice cream in this ice cream maker, frozen yogurts or custards or you will find up to 20 Hamilton Beach ice cream maker recipes inside the manual, but you don’t have to make the full quantity if you don’t want to.
The ice cream maker measures approximately 15.3 x 12.5 x 11.1 inches and includes a 1-year limited warranty, it’s not the kind of ice cream maker that you keep on your worktop like a Cuisinart but with some ice and rock salt and some ice cream mixture it’s a great way to get the kids involved in making something that they will love to eat and you can control what goes into it. White Mountain Ice Cream Maker Overview
Although functionally this White Mountain Ice Cream Maker
works in the same way as the above Hamilton Beach 68330n it just looks like an old fashioned piece of kit that your granny would pull out of the cupboard.
White Mountain make 2 sizes of electric ice and salt machines, a 6 quart which we’ll be looking at and a 4 quart
and if you really want to get down to basics and teach your kids how to make ice cream without electric they also make a hand crank model too.
The White Mountain Ice cream maker is definitely more of an investment piece as it has a higher price tag. This machine comes with a large wooden bucket and not just any old wood but New England pine stained to a dark color and held together with galvanized hoops. This is where you add the ice and salt and your stainless steel canister and lid to make your ice cream. The canister on this machine holds up to 6 quarts of ice cream so if you want to make a large batch and store it in the freezer you can put it into airtight containers
so you can continue to enjoy your ice cream for many days.
This White Mountain Ice cream maker comes with a strong triple action dasher system which is trademarked to white mountain and it’s built with galvanized steel so no chance of it snapping in the ice cream. To deal with the quantity of ice cream and the heavy duty dasher you need an enhanced ,powerful 12,000 rpm universal electric motor.
Although this is a bigger size the process is exactly the same, mix up your ice cream mixture or you can buy ice cream mix from Amazon.com that will work too, you can place the mix and the canister in the freezer for a short time to make it very cold before you start, add it to the canister, place in the dasher and place the lid over it, put the canister in the bucket and surround it with ice and salt in layers, place the motor over the end of the dasher and lock it onto the bucket before switching on. The amount of time to churn will depend on the size of the batch of ice cream but it’s easy to remove the motor and the lid to check on the progress after 30 minutes or so.
This would look great if you brought it out at a party and got people involved in the making of it. Check out our review on the White Mountain Ice cream maker 6 quart or

Hamilton Beach 68330N vs White Mountain Ice Cream Maker
The first thing you will see between these 2 ice cream makers is not the functionality of either of them but the difference in the price, the Hamilton Beach 68330N is one of the cheapest ice cream makers out there and the White Mountain Ice Cream Maker 6 quart
is as expensive as a compressor ice cream maker. The White Mountain
is definitely a statement piece and might make a great gift, it’s more solidly built, but it would be a shame if you didn’t use it often to justify the price. The Hamilton Beach 68330N
might be better for the bank balance of a lot of people, less chance of leaks in a plastic bucket and at 4.4 star rating on Amazon.com customers are liking it.
Conclusion
If you are looking for an ice and salt ice cream maker then both of these models would be a great choice, the cheaper price of the Hamilton Beach 68330N gives you a lighter machine which might be easier to use around kids but whether it will last as long as a White Mountain Ice Cream Maker
might be debatable. If you’re only paying around $30 for the Hamilton Beach 68330N
it might be the best first choice to make to see if you will make good use of it without breaking the bank and it would be our recommendation.
