There are a few compressor ice cream makers that are suitable for the home but some are quite similar and it’s difficult to decide between them. We’ll be reviewing the Whynter ICM-200LS vs Breville BCI600XL Ice Cream Maker so you can see at a glance what the main differences are.
The best reason to invest in a compressor ice cream machine is the fact that you can make ice cream whenever you feel like it. You can also make whatever recipes you like so you can control the sugars or any other ingredients that might cause you issues.
Whynter ICM-200LS Stainless Steel Ice Cream Maker, 2.1-Quart Overview
This ice cream maker is a compressor type machine that lets you make ice cream in your own home. The benefit of a compressor machine is that it is an all in one machine, all you need to supply is the ice cream mixture, no need to freeze in advance or add any ice and salt because it has it’s own freezer unit.
There’s no limit to the different flavours of ice cream that you can make, you can also try freezing yoghurt mixes and sorbet.
This Stainless Steel Ice Cream Maker is not too big to sit on your countertop and it has a quiet motor which is not too intrusive if you’re doing other things while it is working in the background.
The compressor unit is just like a mini freezer so it needs to stand upright before use, if you have to store it, keeping it the right way up means you don’t have to let it settle before use.
It’s very easy to make your ice cream with the easy setup of this ice cream maker, the removable 2 quart bowl gives you the opportunity to make a good sized batch of ice cream to satisfy a family. The mixing paddle is easy to seat in the bowl and everything is held in place with a transparent lid.
There is a 60 minute timer which is adjustable and 3 modes that can be used, the normal ice cream making mode which churns and freezes at the same time, the mixing only mode which you can use for adding extras into your ice cream at the end or the freezer only mode which doesn’t churn and you can use at the end to keep your ice cream cold for up to 30 minutes

If you want to make ice cream or any other type of frozen dessert this compressor ice cream maker gives a self-contained piece of equipment that does not require pre-freezing so you can make your dessert whenever you want.
When you have a removable bowl and churn blade it’s easy to remove the ice cream for storage or to serve and then to wash them up ready for the next batch of ice cream to be made.
Reliable built-in audible timer so you don’t forget about it.
With it’s own built in freezer unit it can freeze up quickly and become difficult to churn so this ice cream machine has a motor protection function that shuts it off to prevent the motor from burning out.

Both of these ice cream makers have a stainless steel housing and a built in freezer and both are quite simple to use with removable ice cream bowls, paddles and transparent lids.
Where they differ is in the capacity of the machines, the Whynter ICM-200LS has a 2 quart capacity compared to the 1.5 quarts of the Breville BCI600XL. On the other hand the Breville has a much more detailed set of controls with a cool down feature.
Both of these compressor ice cream makers can help you make your ice cream at home in an effortless manner. They’re very similar in look and work in the same way although you can make a larger amount of ice cream in the Whynter ICM-200LS and there is a little bit less guess work in the Breville BCI600XL.
However if you don’t mind paying a bit more money for a more detailed control panel and don’t mind the lesser capacity you won’t feel cheated with the Breville as it gives great results but if you don’t mind working out your own timings then the Whynter is the best choice.
